How about we… Check out the Japan Society gallery during the Friday evening free hours, and maybe grab a drink after.
Shiretoko National Park and the surrounding area in Hokkaido, Japan during the summer. I'm not a tree-hugger (I prefer hugging people), but the nature is beautiful up there— and it's also less touristy.
a tie between "In the Mood for Love" and "3-Iron."
I lived in Japan after high school, where I became a wanderlusting culture-vore and foodie, with a burning desire to live in the mountains as a Zen monk. After deciding that asceticism wasn't for me, I decided to satisfy the wanderlust instead. The first time I heard Brazilian music, it hit me to the core and motivated me to learn Portuguese, learn to play a bunch more instruments, and start the only Brazilian music band in Michigan. I moved here in September in search of opportunity, like an old-school rural migrant... except I have an iPod and a MacBook.
Way too many to list, but right now I'd kill to see Mayra Andrade or Lura live. If I could go back in time: Pixinguinha in the 1910s; Django in the '30s; Sarah Vaughan in the '50s; Eddie Palmieri in the '60s; Earth, Wind & Fire in the '70s...
Hmm... the history of Zen and the history of Brazilian music. Also, I can identify a lot of written languages and I may or may not still be on top of my world capitals (I haven't tested myself in a long time, though).
