How about we… pick a surprise ingredient and have our own Iron Chef competition.
How about we… check out the pictures at the Houston Center for Photography and then take some of our own pictures around Houston.
How about we… see what is on display at the The Menil Collection.
I try not to have favorites, as each experience is unique on its own. Each destination provided a different adventure. I loved Turkey not only because of the country’s beauty, but also because the people were incredibly warm and inviting. Renting a car, driving down the coast, staying in small resort towns, watching the stars at night were all thoughts that will not be forgotten. Did an exchange program during business school in Hong Kong and that was amazing. Food, the amount of people – what I learned and the people I met. Walking the ruins of Angkor Wat was spiritual and cleansing and made me visually realize how much of the world we never will completely know. Hiking through the remote portions of the Great Wall outside of Beijing was a welcome surprise. Clubbing in Shanghai was interesting. Hopping through cities and towns in Japan. Feeding wild deer out of your hand under cherry blossom trees in Nara was a surreal experience. Melbourne was relaxing. Was amazed at the beauty of Lebanon, the ability of the city to rebuild itself so quickly, and the hospitality of the people that lived there.
There are no regular days. There are no typical days. Some days I like to run. Some days I will immerse myself into learning about some new topic. Some days it is about writing. Some days I must cook. Some days I must go out and explore. And then of course some days require a book and drifting in and out sleep.
“Well, not just one wish. A whole hatful, Mary. I know what I'm gonna do tomorrow, and the next day, and the next year, and the year after that. I'm shakin' the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I'm gonna see the world. Italy, Greece, the Parthenon, the Colosseum. Then, I'm comin' back here and go to college and see what they know... And then I'm gonna build things. I'm gonna build airfields, I'm gonna build skyscrapers a hundred stories high, I'm gonna build bridges a mile long...” I love “It’s A Wonderful Life” and often think of that quote when thinking about dreams.
I was born in a village outside of New Delhi and moved with my family to Houston when I was two years old. When I was six we moved to a Houston suburb, Sugar Land where I played street ball, found random adventures with neighborhood kids, and learned a little at school. Went away to college at Vanderbilt (How do you like Nashville and Vanderbilt?) where I majored in Economics and Molecular Biology and then went to the University of Texas at Austin for my MBA in International Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship. I live in the revitalizing warehouse district of East Downtown Houston.
'I am a Jack of all trades..." If you can finish the rest of that sentence then you get extra points.
