I went to Catalina Island a few years back. Off the coast of Los Angeles, it's a beautiful island that is the perfect getaway within the US. It's not a "destination island" that mounds of people flock to over the summer months...it's very quaint, and one can definitely have a nice vacation away from it all without all of that "touristy" crap.
