I've been to quite a few truly amazing places—mostly in the US, and mostly so obscure that they don't see much foot traffic. (I spent my summers backpacking and climbing as a kid.) One of the most amazing was a lake in the Spanish Peaks Wilderness in Montana. It was a natural wind-chime that made one of the most beautiful sounds vie ever heard in nature. If that doesn't cut it, I've also been to Alaska.
Awestruck by the beauty of Lake Tahoe and challenge of Yosemite my last trip. The Alhambra was unforgettable as was most of Spain. Some caribbean isles have added years to my life.
rome --- also, one of my favorite places is lake tahoe
Lake Namtso in Tibet, highest salt water lake in the world (!)
Wiitness lake in Colorado, near the top of Troublesome Mountain. No roads, hike in. Glacial Snow on the ground in June!
All sorts of bizarre stuff that comes from 37 years of perverse interest in the obscure. Ex: these's a lake in Africa (Nyos, in Cameroon) that twice bubbled up huge amounts of carbon dioxide that welled up over the shore, drifted down into a nearby village and suffocated everyone.
