I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there’s a new Skype bug infestation in town, and it’s here to destroy your social life. (And maybe make you actually sex-message your grandma.) Dramatic, right? According to Engadget, the bug “repeatedly and unintentionally” forwards instant messages to random people in users’ contact lists.

This is frightening because it’s easy enough to screw up instant messaging on your own, like dragging the wrong person into the bubble or something. But now the internet is here to make that mistake for you.

I don’t even want to think about what implications this has for your love life. You have to assume that, until this is fixed, everything you say on Skype could be forwarded to anyone in your Skype circle. Definitely something to keep you on the edge of your seat today!

Skype has submitted a statement saying they know about the bug and will fix it in the newest issue of Skype, which will be available in the next few days.

Until then, I would say you should be careful but this beast seems too wild to tame. My advice is to steer clear until things calm down. (There’s always gchat.)
