According to Hugo Schwyzer, a columnist for Jezebel (and gender studies professor), guys aren’t always so genuine when they say things like, “I’m such an asshole.” Schwyzer claims that men have started to use self-deprecation as a way of deflecting female anger, playing helpless, and generally avoiding culpability during fights.

Which sucks because I feel like, as women, we have recently evolved to find any sort of self-deprecation in men hopelessly charming.

I blame Hugh Grant. I blame him entirely.
