I’m not going to lie to you. Yesterday morning, while running my perfunctory 5k on the treadmill, I geeked out over VH1’s Top 100 R&B Songs of the 90’s special. The miles breezed by as pseudo-celebrities dissected the finer points of Ginuwine’s, “My Pony.”

Who knew the ladies of En Vogue would still sound like a pillar of strength 20 years later on the classic, “My Lovin”? “Funky Divas” was little Eliza’s first record back in 1992. Boy do I feel old, but more so, I feel the urge to resurrect other nostalgic gems great and small. The yearning, burning lovin’ of pop music takes hold of my brain in ways that the most highbrow of art cannot. It is the human experience condensed into three-minute bursts of perfection. Like any infectious love song, I don’t want these feelings to end. Praise be to Friday and the possibilities that it brings. Let’s kick the weekend off with 10 spirited songs by ladies in love, lust and limbo.
