Friday Mix Tape: 10 Love Songs For New York City
by Eliza Light on July 27, 2012
“New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down,” is not just the title (with liberties) of a misguided ensemble film circa 2009. It is one of the defining anthems of the late, great LCD Soundsystem, New York’s seminal electro rock band of the same era. Last week I had the pleasure of seeing, “Shut Up and Play the Hits,” a documentary chronicling the band’s final epic show at Madison Square Garden in 2011. The film is a love letter to the band and the city that helped shape its music.
