Celebrity Couple Crush: Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt
by Lilit Marcus on April 04, 2012
After Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon broke up, someone in Hollywood needed to pick up the mantle of awesomely unmarried celebrity couple. Thankfully, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt have taken on that role beautifully. The committed-without-certificate couple has been together for more than a decade without bothering to make it legal, and they seem every bit as happy and devoted as any married pair. And it helps that both of their careers are on fire: in addition to his starring role on Mad Men, Jon is a regular guest on Saturday Night Live and had a great supporting role in Bridesmaids. Jennifer, who wrote and directed the indie comedy Kissing Jessica Stein, enlisted her partner — and a few of their very funny friends — to join the cast of her new flick Friends with Kids.
Despite being famous, Jenn and Jon could be any ridiculously attractive version of a normal couple. They’re both self-deprecating about their relationship, with Jon telling a reporter that he decided to take the role in Friends with Kids “because I was sleeping with the director.” He also leaned on her for support when directing his first Mad Men episode, “Tea Leaves,” which aired this week. Most importantly, they seem to be good at communicating with each other, and they have the same goals in the relationship. Both of them have stressed that they don’t plan to have a wedding or any kids, two things which could be dealbreakers if they weren’t on the same page. (Friends with Kids was even inspired by the way Jon and Jennifer handled their friends beginning to have children and those friendships changing.) Oh, and they even manage to make coordinated outfits like these sweet instead of sappy.
