Can You Judge A Guy’s Character By His Hot Wife?
by Lauren Passell on June 01, 2012
This week in a radio interview, James Franklin, head coach at Vanderbilt, had this to say about hiring assistant coaches:
“I’ve been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant until I see his wife. If she looks the part and she’s a D1 recruit, then you got a chance to get hired. That’s part of the deal. There’s a very strong correlation between having the confidence, going up and talking to a woman, and being quick on your feet and having some personality and confidence and being articulate and confident, than it is walking into a high school and recruiting a kid and selling him.”

Later on Twitter, Franklin apologized and admitted he was kidding, but still, people are talking. If a guy has a hot wife does that mean he is confident and brazen? Can you measure the qualities of someone with a hot wife at all, and if you can, are those qualities that relate to recruiting? What does hot even mean? Is there a god?

You can learn a lot about someone when you meet their mate. But I think this is more about in their engagement with them, not what they look like or if they are more or less attractive. What if an assistant had a hot wife who was a total dingle berry? Does that mean the guy is a personality-oozing, articulate bro-dude?
I think James Franklin needs to work on his argument. Or at least, if he was joking, not quit his day job as his career as a comedian seems to leave much to be desired. Comedy shouldn’t be confusing.

But the question remains: if you see a guy with a hot chick on his arm, what do you assume about him? What if it’s the other way around?
Also, what would James Franklin say if he were to hire someone married to someone who looked like… James Franklin? I mean, I don’t like to judge people on looks alone, but he brought it up, not me, and I’m just saying… Mr. Franklin isn’t my type.
