Believe It Or Not, This Is The Best Love Song Of All Time, Says Meby Lauren Passell on June 13, 2012
I don’t usually like love songs because I don’t enjoy slow music. Maybe that’s why I like They Might Be Giants’ Birdhouse In Your Soul. The first time I heard it I was six and I thought it was a love song. And although I have grown to see it has many meanings, I am sticking with my original theory: it’s about love. It also makes me want to go run around skipping in daisy fields:
Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch / Who watches over you / Make a little birdhouse in your soul / Not to put too fine a point on it / Say I’m the only bee in your bonnet / Make a little birdhouse in your soul

It could be about religion, or a creepy stalker, or just… electricity, but it could be interpreted as a guy who cares for a girl (or another guy, or whatever) more than anyone else and she doesn’t even know it, and he’s promising he’d love her and is asking for love in return. He’s asking for a little place in his beloved’s heart.
Or, maybe I’m wrong. I’m open to that possibility. What is the best love song of all time?
