Guys often complain that girls are hard to understand and we make no sense and why do we always do this and that, and I have no idea what to tell them. I’m sick of hearing about it. You should be used to it now. You’re weird, too.

But boys, I’m going to let you in on some insider knowledge that will give you a leg up to the girl mind.

Well first, watch this:

This is Robyn’s brilliant music video for her hit, “Call Your Girlfriend”, and for reasons I can’t really explain, it is the key to every girl’s heart. Girls watch this video and they love it, they love Robyn so much they’d switch teams for her (she’s a threat to you!), and they want her shoes. They think her haircut is badass. And they want to dance like her.

True, this dance video isn’t necessarily anything special. She’s not doing flips or anything. And that is the first reason girls go cray-cray for this video:

1. The dance moves are doable. They can do them in their own homes.

It’s also true that the dance moves are insanely in tune with the female mind. Which brings us to reason number two girls love this video:

2. How Robyn dances in this video is how every girl wants to dance all the time and it expresses exactly how girls feel. As our blogger Nikki Metzgar says, ” She dances in the video like the song makes me want to dance, only obviously she does it better. It’s like she’s dancing because dancing is fun!”

I have polled my guy friends, and they do not think Robyn’s hair is too sexy here, and they are like “what the hell is she wearing?” And they think this whole thing is pretty weird. Which leads me to reason number three why girls love this video:

3. Most girls are not balsy enough to cut their hair like this, wear shoes like that, or pants, or that sweater. But they all want to, deep inside.

Also:

4. This song is literally just freaking fantastic.

Go ahead, listen to it 4,000 times in a row. And you will just want to listen to it 4,000 more times. Girls, this can be our anthem. We’ll be singing this song to get our daughters to get to sleep one day or something.

5. Let’s not forget about the bomb-ass lyrics. As my friend Alanna says, “She’s convincing the new dude to dump his girlfriend while she’s simultaneously coaching him through it. “DUMP THAT BITCH BECAUSE YOU JUST MET SOMEBODY NEW!!! MEEEE!” Right? Who hasn’t ever wanted to do that?” But, at the same time, Robyn tries to say it in a way to make the real girlfriend not feel so bad. “She tells him to say things you yourself would want to hear if you were on the receiving end.”

And one more thing, via Nikki:

6. “She’s alone dancing in a room and it seems really brave.”

My girlfriends love this video so much we decided recently to rent a dance studio and watch the video over, and over again. Because that’s what we usually do anyway on Saturdays. But this time we would do it together, learn the dance moves, and dance just like Robyn. It ended up looking like this: (Oh God, this is embarrassing.)

Now let me tell you. Those dance moves are harder than they look. We never quite mastered the back flip/hump the floor thing, or that thing where she’s waving her hands over her head (it looks so easy!) and we never synched any of it at all. But that part at :51, we nailed. And it’s really fun to do.

If I met a guy who was like, “man, you know what my favorite music video is? Robyn’s Call Your Girlfriend” I would probably rip my shirt off and fall in love with him on the spot. Guys, I’m not saying you should lie and say you like it. I’m saying you should watch it over and over until you get it. Because somewhere underneath those floral stretch pants and those platform sneakers is the answer to what drives women — what they care about, how they love, what makes them tick. I don’t even have the answer. So take this and go — godspeed. Good luck. Let me know if you come to any earth-shattering conclusions.
