Not to make generalizations here, but, I know so so many guys who immediately start dating another girl the second they break up with someone. It’s happened to me, and it’s happened to almost all of my friends.

In yesterday’s NY Times, writer Dominique Browning takes a stab at trying to understand why.

“Being alone feels dangerous to a man. No one has your back. No one feeds you. No one nurses you in your sickbed. No one takes up a watch if you vanish or sends out a search party if you wander off the trail.

The world is dangerous enough without adding the dangers that come of being alone.”

It might seem like a bit of an extreme (it is a bit of an extreme), but think about it: guys, especially guys who have gotten used to the comforts of a relationship, do not like being alone. It’s scary out there, without a girlfriend to walk into a party with, to sleep next to, to reassure you that you’re an attractive man who is worthy of love.

Which leads me to conclude that women are simply tougher than men when it comes to break-ups.

Buck up, boys!

Have you guys noticed that men are more likely to rebound quickly from a relationship, or is this theory bunk? Let us know what you think in the comments!
