That “Je Ne Sais Quois” That Makes Women Want to Have Sex
by Chiara Atik on December 15, 2011
A company that had been on the cusp of inventing a female Viagra (disastrously named LibiGel)(Why is it a gel?!) has failed in its endeavor. Clinical trials showed that women were not at all more turned on after using the “topical solution of testosterone” (ew).
This begs the question: why is it so much more difficult to create a pharmaceutical to increase female libido than it was to create one for men?
Women’s sexual drives, and attitudes towards sex, vary greatly: not to make a completely overused and untimely pop culture comparison, but, there are Samanthas in the world, and then there are Charlottes. But whether a woman has the sexual promiscuity of a nun or of a porn star, science has yet to create that magic formula that will universally alter a woman’s body chemistry towards sexual arousal.
Love potions have been a part of popular culture long before pharmaceutical companies, so it stands to reason that some day someone will get around to inventing one that works.
So scientists, since LibiGel was such a failure, let me give you some tips on your next endeavor.
If you can figure out a way to bottle
- musical talent
- pine needle
- gentleness around children
- smouldering eye contact
…and turn that into a “topical solution”?
Then we’d be cooking.
Just for fun: tell us what other ingredients should be bottled into the perfect love potion!
