Beware The Region of Platonic Affection!by Chiara Atik on November 18, 2011
This is a 19th Century representation of a woman’s heart, and while most of it is comprised of aggravating gender stereotypes that haven’t gone away in the past two hundred years (“coquetry” and “love of dress” take up huge sections), other areas look pret-ty familiar.
I’ve definitely spent some time in the Country of Eligibleness, ditto the Region of Platonic Affection. Nowadays, I find myself somewhat permanently settled in the Tenting Grounds of Uncertainty, taking frequent weekend trips to the Lake of Self Concern. One of these days maybe I’ll get my passport stamped in Prudence, or even get to dip my toes in the Sea of Wealth. But not yet, dear readers; not yet.
