Online Dating 101: Most People Judge You When You Mention Sex In Your Profileby Scott Alden on November 10, 2011
We recently asked our readers whether or not they are put off when a person mentions sex in their online dating profile.
Only 31% of readers seem to think that talking about sex in one’s profile is not indicative of anything besides enjoying sex. 63% of respondents report a more judgmental reaction — about half of them assumed that sex-mentioners are not interested in anything but sex and the other half seem to think it’s downright creepy.
The lesson here? If you’re looking for a relationship, it seems that you will be taken more seriously if you leave sex out of your profile — whether that’s fair or not.
Now, you may only be interested in the 31% percent of people who won’t jump to conclusions, and that’s fine. In this case, mentioning sex could be a good way of separating the wheat from the chaff.
In any case, it is important to be aware of the impact that a mention of sex has online so that you won’t be misunderstood. If you’re concerned about this, it may be best to leave the sex out all together.
After all, it’s probably safe for us to assume that you like sex, whether you make a point to say so or not.
