A “zipless f*ck” can be defined as a more or less anonymous sexual encounter that is free of ulterior motives, power games and guilt. It has been considered “the perfect one night stand.”

Erica Jong, who coined the term nearly 40 years ago, now admits that she may have been describing an impossible situation.

“I mean we always wish it would happen. We never completely give up the fantasy but I think it’s rarer and rarer and when I look back on my life for the most part the best sex of my life has always been with people that I was with for many years and had a lot in common with,” said Jong, now age 69, in a recent interview with HuffPo UK, “When I look back at the one night stands and zipless f*cks, they were terrible.”

It seems that men and women alike share this fantasy — mindblowing, no-strings-attached sex with a total stranger — but does the reality ever really deliver?
