DC Date Idea: The Sparkling Wine Food Truckby Chiara Atik on June 22, 2011
Looking for a fun thing to do in the DC area this weekend? The Freixenet Tastings and Tapas Truck (which has been nicknamed “The Black Bottle Bubbly”) is in town to teach the good people of DC about Cava, which is Spain’s sparkly wine.
It’s the perfect opportunity to show off your wine skills to your date. “What wine skills?” you might ask? Just memorize this:
Cava is a Catalan sparkling wine that comes in white or rosé. In order to be called a Cava, the wine has to have been produced in the traditional method, or méthode champenoise. The wine is named after the Spanish word for “cellar” and the Catalan word for “cave”, a nod to old-fashioned wine storage. It was first made in 1851.
See? You’re such a wine genius. Your date is going to be so impressed.
At the truck, guests are invited to eat tapas, learn more about Cava, and play games. Perfect to incorporate into an outdoor picnic!
