There Are 237 Reasons To Have Sex, Says Scienceby Chiara Atik on June 16, 2011
Men want sex because they like a conquest, and women have sex to please their man and signify a deep commitment, right? Wrong. According to a new study by the University of Texas, Austin, men and women are both after the same thing when they decide to have sex: pleasure.
The study polled men and women from around the globe and asked them why they have sex. Incredibly, the study was able to pick out 287 distinct motivations to jump between the sheets, but both genders say that the most frequent reason is simply physical pleasure.
Out of the 237 reasons, scientists were able to determine 10 dominant ones for both sexes. (Presumably, the rest of the 227 or so reasons to have sex are fairly obscure: “I have sex because I miss my dead cat” and the like.) But amazingly, 8/10 of these reasons were the same for both genders: attraction, love, affection, to feel good about ourselves, etc.
So, really, it looks like men and women are pretty much on the same page when it comes to sex, which is both surprising and nice to learn.
Turns out sex — or rather, the motivation for having it — is the one thing we can all agree on.
